The traditional wisdom is that the holidays are a bad time to try and sell your home. The traditional wisdom would be wrong. The holidays are a great time to sell your home!
The first reason is that there is a whole lot less competition in the housing market. Since the traditional wisdom says don’t sell during the holidays there are less houses competing with yours. Less competition means more people looking at your home. More traffic, more offers, sold home. Fewer homes on the market means that you also have a better chance of getting a great price, possibly asking or above. In the end, isn’t that what you want?
This time of year your home is looking its best
You’ve decorated for Christmas or Hanukkah and since the holidays mean entertaining you’re probably cleaning more than usual. Baking holiday goodies makes your home smell fantastic. People looking at your home this time of year can even more easily picture their family celebrating like you are now. Now you’ve got their emotions. Grab their emotions and your home is as good as sold!
Great school system
The common wisdom also says that parents only move their families when schools are out to keep from disrupting the school year. While that can be true, sometimes parents are willing to move their kids into a better school system mid year. If you live in a great school system, play it up. Parents will move to give their kids a leg up in their education. If you have a family, it may just be the reason you moved there in the first place.
Don’t buy into conventional wisdom. You can successfully sell your home during the holidays. If your Realtor disagrees, find one who knows better.
