Make Sure Your Home is Show Ready!

Make sure your home is show ready if you want to sell your home quickly and for the price you want. Potential buyers will be ready to buy for your price if your home is clean and clutter free.

Make Sure Your Home is Show Ready! The most important thing you need to do is clean. Think about the things you saw when you were house shopping. Did you see a dirty house as a challenge, or did you run the other way? Exactly! So scrub everything from ceiling to floor. Clean baseboards. Vacuum up pet hair, especially since you don’t know if anyone looking will have allergies. Dust everything, even high up where people can’t see, or behind furniture. People look everywhere, so don’t give them a reason to walk away. Potential buyers want to move into a clean house and not have to think about cleaning up someone else’s mess.

As you are cleaning look for things that may need to be fixed or replaced. Replace switch covers on light switches and electrical outlets. If outlets are painted over, have an electrician replace them. If baseboards are beat up, paint them. Tiles cracked? Ask at your local Lowes or Home Depot how to replace a few tiles, or hire a handyman to help. Caulk around windows and doors to stop air leaks. Caulk tubs and showers, especially if the old caulk has mildew stains. Make the home look fresh. It doesn’t take a major upgrade to make things look new.

Another thing potential buyers notice are chipped paint or wall scuffs. Touch them up or repaint the room. Wash curtains or replace them. Shampoo carpets. Declutter every room and closet. You can’t hide anything because buyers look in every nook and cranny. If closets are packed, they will appear small. Never a good thing.

So take the time to walk through your home with a critical eye. Look at it like a potential buyer would. Notice everything because your potential buyers definitely will.
