Winter is here and it’s time to be sure that you have taken care of certain tasks that will keep your home safe and sound. Denver get’s a bunch of snow during the winter so there are a lot of things that can be done to keep damage from happening to your home.
Clean out gutters
One thing you should do at least twice a year, and definitely before the snow hits, is to clean out your gutters. In warmer weather clogged gutters can cause rainwater to overflow instead of being funneled away from the foundation of your home. All that water at the foundation can cause all sorts of damage. It can cost you thousands of dollars to fix.
In the colder months that water in your clogged gutters can freeze. This won’t hurt your foundation, but it will back ice up into your roof damaging it and causing water damage to your insides.
It’s not hard to clean them out. If you have a leaf-blower attachment to blast the debris away, a garden cultivator to rake the debris away, or just put on some gloves and dig in. Then use a hose to make sure there are no obstructions in the downspout.
After those snow storms it’s important to do some maintenance then too. Obviously shoveling walks and stairs is important. Salting them is a good idea in order to keep the ice at bay. If you have windows or window wells removing snow from around them is important to keep any kind of leaking from getting into your home. If the snow is heavy or there is a lot of it, keep your roof and deck in mind and sweep or shovel heavy snow off.
Keep your home maintained in the winter. It will keep your home safe and your family safe and sound.
